UPDATE: First Team Management

Just an update on our current 1st team managerial vacancy!

As I’m sure you are all aware, our managers position was vacated last week, the club have been actively been seeking a positive step forward.

We are pleased to announce that after positive conversations, Bradley Yeo, has agreed to take over the role as Lakeside Athletic’s Interim Manager.

We have agreed that putting up a post updating people about the clubs current situation is the best step forward, with less then 2 weeks until the teams 1st League fixture vs Marjons 8th August, the team was left with 0 players signed on for the up coming season. So, obviously not ideal.

Although, now we have held positive talks with many players also started getting players registered, we are looking for players that are interested in coming in and being part of a exciting new project.

We are actively looking for players that are young, keen to learn, are looking for game time in adult football.

This will be a perfect environment for 16-23 year olds that are trying to establish themselves/transition into the Adult game.

Moving forward, we are looking to build a football club that all our youth players aspire to be in across the male & female game.

The hard work starts now & we ask anyone interested in coming along to 1st team training to contact ‘Ernesettle Hall’ on Facebook messenger or Jamie Ellicott, club chairman, 07800870136

Jamie Ellicott
Lakeside Athletic Club Chairman

3 WEEKS OF CELEBRATIONS

Whilst the season is slowly coming to an end with 2 of our teams still to fulfill fixtures throughout the remainder of May, four of our teams have had events partake over the last month which we’d like to share.

23rd/24th APRIL – ESF TOURNAMENT FINALISTS

Our u13 Juniors travelled to Butlins (Minehead) to compete in the ESF Butlins Tournament. The boys played 8 fixtures throughout the two days, ultimately losing to Eastbourne, who respectively went on to win the group. Lakeside had finished 2nd behind Eastbourne taking the runners-up spot. They went on to have their awards presented by ex-Premier League player, Danny Murphy.

Manager, Darren Priaulx had this to say post tournament – “It was a new experience for the squad, but these boys exceeded expectations at the ESF Butlins Tournament. From the first whistle till the last they were playing some exciting football, eventually coming away runners up in a tough group.”

2nd MAY – BIDEFORD TOURNAMENT FINALISTS

The u15 girls made the 3 hour round trip to Bideford on bank holiday Sunday to compete in Bideford’s annual floodlit tournament. The girls played 4 teams in a league format – losing 1, winning 3 – they faced Bideford AFC in the Champions League Final (yes, both teams walked out of the changing rooms to the anthem, over the PA system!)

Manager, Macauley Rickard has this to say about the experience – “The girls adapted extremely well to a small pitch. Gained confidence as the tournament progressed. Fantastic experiences for the girls playing under floodlights.”

Goalscorers throughout the tournament – Phippen (2), Kirkham (2), Bullard and Woodward.

8th MAY – LEAGUE CUP FINALISTS

After clinching the league title a couple weeks prior, the U15 Juniors faced AFC Plympton at Haye Road for the Royal Oak League Cup Final. A tight contest which saw AFC Plympton come out as 2-1 victors.

Manager, Marley Cunningham had this to say about the game – “Words cannot describe how proud I am of my boys this season. The progress they’ve made in such short time with such huge success is unheard of. We’ve built a family here not a team. This will only keep growing. Proud is an understatement and these boys deserve everything they’ve earned this season”

13th MAY – EARLY END OF SEASON CELEBRATION

The ladies held their first (early) end of season celebration after their home league game against Plainmoor having continued their winning streak to 4 games. The ladies still have play Signal Box Oak Villa on Thursday as their penultimate league fixture.

Manager, Matt Searle has went on to say: “Well what a season we’ve had. From some games where we had 8 players at games to having 20 available at others. We’ve had many doubters through the season who never thought we would get to this stage.

Let’s talk about that 1st win!! What a way to do it! Having battled and played well we got what we all deserved and finally brought 3 points home thanks to Becs last minute free kick.

Onto where we stand now….. another 3 wins on top of that and 4 in a row. I have no doubt in my mind that we will have number 5 on Sunday.

Thanks to Mike, Jamie and Mother for the help and support over this season cause I know we haven’t been the easiest team to sort. Most of all thanks to you the players. Thanks for your hard work and trying to take everything I say on board. I believe we have a good group and I for one want to thank you for being the best team I’ve had.”

There will be much more celebrations, presentation evenings and shout outs to mention over the coming weeks!

Self Defence As The Girls Protect

Over the past couple of weeks a small proportion of girls from the club have undergone a course of self defence sessions with Masters Academy based in Stonehouse.

The girls who partake within the u11 Youth and u15 Girls respectively have shown great maturity at young ages throughout, of a subject which could make a significant difference in the future.

Covering many of aspects such as legal use of force in self-defence, control of personal space, SMART targeting and coopers colour codes. The girls were given packs with all of the information needed on each section being looked at, in great detail also.

On behalf of Lakeside Athletic FC, we’d like to thank Anton and James for their efforts in leading the course for the players involved and feedback received upon completion from both parties.

Here is some feedback we’ve received from the participants:

Q1 : How did you find the experience of self defence from Masters Academy?
A : “It was very well organised, they made me feel confident and encouraged me”

Q2 : What did you enjoy most?
A : “Enjoyed the practical exercises, learning the skills and techniques. Such as, how to punch properly, defensive skills.”

Q3 : What did you take from this course that you’ll use going forwards?
A : “Hopefully I will never get to use the self defence but comes in handy if I ever need to do so”

Q4 : Would you endure this experience again?
A : All feedback have stated ‘Yes’ whilst thanking Anton and James for the opportunity.

Q5 : Would you recommend this course to any other young person?
A : “Yes because it teaches us what to do… I think young girls and boys who go out on their own should learn these skills. Women in general should too.”

COUNTY CUP ROUND-UP 06/02/2022

The Lakeside flag was flying high throughout the day, we had two Devon FA County Cup; Semi-Final ties played over the course of Sunday 6th February 2022.

Stitch 3Sixty Sunday Senior Cup
Tamar View 7 – 0 Lakeside Athletic (HT 6-0)

The Sunday side have seen a progressive run with positive results against Whimple, Signal Box Oak Villa and South Brent come to an end this morning. After a rapid start from Tamar View, taking a heafty lead at the interval, we wish them all the best in the final against Queen & Constitution in April, respectively.

Scott Richards Solicitors Veterans Cup
Lakeside Athletic 1 – 1 Plymouth Pheonix Vets (Lakeside progress to the final 5-4 on penalties)

The Vets have endured a run against Elburton Villa and Sidmouth Town before meeting Pheonix today in the semi-final. Taking an early lead against the reigning champions in the first half before being pegged back in the second half. Both sides showed great acumen to withstand the wet, windy conditions with both attempting to get the final goal within normal time. With County Cup fixtures going straight to penalties when tied, Lakeside stood strong to see themselves through to the final against either Tamar View Tailormade or Teignmouth.

We would like to wish both opponents the best of luck for the remainder of their seasons respectively

Equally, we still have two youth County-Cup fixtures to be played on 13/02/22, as follows:
U13 Juniors; 4th Round; Galmpton United v Lakeside Athletic
U15 Girls; Quarter-Final; Plymouth Marjon v Lakeside Athletic
